Deaths and Injuries due to motor vehicle collisions are preventable. It could be as simple as slowing down, wearing a seatbelt, driving sober and staying focused on the road. The Quinte Region Traffic Coalition (QRTC) is a partnership of Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, Belleville Police Service, Stirling-Rawdon Police Service, 21 Military Police Flight, CN Police Service, Tyendinaga Police Service, OPP SAVE Team, Napanee Highway Safety Division and the Bancroft, Central Hastings, Napanee, Prince Edward County and Quinte West OPP Detachments.
The goal of the QRTC is to reduce the number of incidents resulting in injury and death on roads, trails, and waterways in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Strategies include what is known as the 3 “E’s” of injury prevention: Education, Enforcement and Engineering.
Formed in 2009, evolving from the highly successful Aggressive Driving Kills campaign, the QRTC was officially re-launched in August 2013 after developing a Strategic Road Safety Action Plan. Priorities for the Coalition for 2013 – 2016 are distracted driving, aggressive driving and impaired driving. Other road, off-road and marine issues will continue to be addressed by the coalition members as needed.
